The Fiesta Grande commemorates the legend of Doña María de Angulo, a Spanish woman who arrived in Chiapa de Corzo in the 18th century seeking a cure for her son. The locals disguised themselves to cheer up the boy (for the 'chico' [boy], hence 'parachico'). It is Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
